Summer activities and vacations have started. Social media is full of pictures and comments from super places of learning and pleasure. People are planning for pleasure. May I add two fun and enriching experiences to your list.
First, for golfers, the Association is again conducting a Chaplain Anniversary USACCRA Family Educational Scholarship Golf Tournament, 29 July 2026 at the Ft. Jackson MWR course in Columbia, SC. All proceeds after expenses, go towards our scholarship fund. Last year six students were supported. This year’s selected students will be announced at the golf tournament. Both contributions and number of applicants surpassed last year. It’s exciting to watch our Association’s youth developing the values we hold dear. Please see details on this website. And if you live far away or are a golfing spectator like me, join the rest of us by making a financial donation to the scholarship fund. Such an offering can be an act of worship to God and support of the Army Chaplain Corps.
Second, please don’t wait until the last minute to register for our Biennial Gathering, 27-30 October in San Antonio, TX at the historic Menger Hotel next door to the Alamo. All the details are on this website with the portal to register and the info to make reservations at the Menger. Medal of Honor (MOH) recipient MG-Ret. Brady is our Tuesday evening dinner speaker. A helicopter pilot medic who saved 51 lives in Vietnam, will share with us. Our Honorary UMT presents for us, and a tour of the local historic missions is available Wednesday afternoon. We are negotiating for a second MOH recipient to be with us all week. Several more activities are being arranged.
Most of all, come to see you friends and colleagues from service to God and Country. For many this Gathering every two years is the only opportunity to see certain folks they hold dear in memories and friendship. Social media and video meetings can’t replace face-to-face conversations that last long into the night in and out of the hospitality room provided and supplied with free refreshments.
You are remembered and revered. Embrace the Corps through your branch association and discover the latest happenings. You are the Association and the Army Chaplain Corps family and legacy.
Pro Deo et Patria,
Scottie Lloyd
USACCRA President
