The Army Chaplaincy keeps rolling along bringing God to people and people to God through sacred callings with USACCRA right alongside. In or out of uniform, we continue to serve God and country because the mission does not change.
May is often known as the graduation month with new beginnings. Students are finalizing exams, donning funny square hats, and degrees are being presented. Joy, fear, hope, and excitement fill the air. Celebrations are long into the night.
Some of our USACCRA members are competing doctoral degrees after years of delaying study due to strenuous and fast-paced service. Our Honoray Chaplain Colonel David Smith will share his doctoral discovery in support of morally wounded combat soldiers at this year’s Biennial Gathering. And beside him will be Honorary RSGM Dr. Pamela Wilson, who will outline for our participation in her program to capture the biographical histories of every Unit Ministry Team serving in the Corps. These memories will be a book preserved at the Army Chaplain Museum for historical reference and enjoyment by all. This is a rare gift for everyone who has served in some capacity with the Army Chaplain Corps.
Add to our Biennial Gathering for Tuesday evening’s opening presentation is arrangements for a Medal of Honor recipient to share with us. Announcement will not be made of the name until a final agreement is signed. We are excited about this honored speaker and feel you will count this a special blessing.
Don’t miss the Alamo special re-enactment demonstration that will conclude our Thursday morning session with a gun salute and more. Remember, the Alamo chapel, sacred ground in Texas and US history, is directly next door to our historic hotel. Celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary by walking the Alamo experience. San Antonio has extensively renovated the Alamo grounds with new displays.
The complex on the other side of our hotel has also been renovated extensively and is a new mall filled with a variety of shops to see and enjoy. The hotel area is located in a pedestrian area so this is a walker’s delight. For several blocks around us are full of restaurants and entertainment of every kind. The Famous River Walk is literally two blocks from our hotel. It doesn’t get much easier.
Several more opportunities are being coordinated along with a fully equipped hospitality room for folks to visit each other, renewing old friendships and making new friends. It’s all about relationships with God and our fellow UMTs.
Pro Deo et Patria,
Scottie Lloyd
USACCRA President
