His duty assignments included being an instructor at the chaplain school at Fort Monmouth, NJ; Arlington Cemetery, VA; and Chief of Chaplains office at the Pentagon. He attained the rank of Colonel before retiring.

He was known for his wide smile and lengthy sermons! Paul was a very social person, who loved to plan special get-to-gethers with friends. As a result of seeing the American Red Cross in action during the recovery at the Pentagon after the September 11 attacks, Paul became a Red Cross volunteer for many years. Paul enjoyed traveling, reading history books, sailing, listening to jazz bands, eating pierogies, bird watching, parades, popcorn, and was willing to bend your ear as long as you would let him. His travels took him to most of the 50 states, plus Canada, Mexico, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, England, Scotland, Germany, and the USSR.
