Dave currently serves on numerous boards and associations and is a Doctoral Student in the tract, Trauma and Moral Injury in the Christian Life. Before his retirement, he served on the staff of JustPeace as the Coordinator for the Soul Care Initiative. The Soul Care Initiative resourced and trained faith communities and faith partners to design mission and ministry focused on healing the soul and strengthening the spirit of veterans and their families. He is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church. As an Army ROTC scholarship student, he received his commission as a Second Lieutenant, 28 May 1977. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Divinity Degree from Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC, a Master of Science in Television, Radio, and Film from Syracuse University, and a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Dave, as a reserve officer, served in the 1/314th Infantry (Mechanized), Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. His active duty assignments include Battalion Chaplain, 1/63 Armor Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas; Group Chaplain, 557th United States Army Artillery Group, Herborn-Seelbach, Germany; Broadcast Center Chaplain, Armed Forces Radio and Television Service, Sun Valley, California; Brigade Chaplain, 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Assistant V Corps Chaplain, for Plans, Operations, and Training, Heidelberg, Germany; Command Chaplain, US Army NATO, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Mons, Belgium; Brigade Chaplain, 35th Signal Brigade (Airborne), Deputy Corps Chaplain, XVIII Airborne Corps, and Division Chaplain, 82nd Airborne, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Command Chaplain, US Southern European Task Force (Airborne) and Command Chaplain US Army Africa, Vicenza, Italy; Command Chaplain, US Army Intelligence and Security Command, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; and Command Chaplain, US Forces-Afghanistan, Kabul, Afghanistan; and his final assignment as the first Command Chaplain, US Army Cyber, Fort Meade, Maryland. He retired from the US Army in 2014 having served 37 years, 7 Army Reserves, and 30 Active Duty.

Dave has deployed in support of Operation Island Breeze, Grenada; Operation Restore Democracy, Haiti; Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq; Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan; and to both Romania and the Republic of Georgia. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan and Iraqi Campaign Medals, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NATO and United Nations Medals, and Overseas Service Ribbon. He also has received both the German and Romanian Foreign Parachutist Badges.

Dave is married to his bride of 44 years, Karen. They have two sons; Joshua and Joel; and three grandsons; Solomon, Isaac, and Jonah.
