|After my Army retirement in 2004, we moved to the tiny, rural community of Absarokee, MT. I started a small non-profit Pastoral Counseling office and also worked as a hospital Chaplain.|
October 2013 brought a disrupting but unsurprising diagnosis of lung cancer (it had killed my only sibling and one parent). September 2014 brought progression and Stage IV. The past 6 years have been quite and adventure… still trying to work some, going through a police academy to become a Reserve Deputy and then volunteering 1 or 2 day/nights per week, numerous surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy and other treatments.
I have now become the first Chaplain for our Sheriff’s Office. I still work a couple of days a week at the hospital, even while getting an infusion every 3 weeks. Our Father has been so good to me. The meds I’m on now were a “Hail Mary pass” that wasn’t expected to work, but has for the past two years. We are thankful for every single day I get with my wife and family.
