After active duty I got my doctorate in psychology, AAPC credentials and a state license. Judy, a clinical psychologist, and I founded the Brattleboro Pastoral Counseling Center with the support of all the main line churches. We ended up with six therapists on the staff. After 17 years we went into private practice. I retired a few years ago and Judy will retire in January. It’s been a great ride!

I am retiring at the end of the month as the Associate Endorser for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My plans are pretty open but my first duty will be to assist in the daily home care of my wife, Ramona, who has had a major stroke and is paralyzed and immobile. Then there are the grandkids (10 now) and doing several personal projects. And, of course, there is the opportunity to continue serving in our Ward and at the Temple and various humanitarian things, too.

It has been, and still is, a great ride! After retiring from active duty in 1992 I was privileged to serve as an Endorser until 2005 when we retired to Loveland, Colorado. Since then I’ve released four DVD sets: Faces Around the Cross; Faces Around the Manger; Miracles of the Master (19 first person character programs); and an 8 part DVD on the Armor of God (for men’s ministries and groups). The Centurion a book published recently is doing well. 24 TV programs are in editing and will shortly be 3 more DVD sets. My biography will be released in the spring of 2014 and is in editing now.

We enjoy the mountain views and location and keep busy with Ardis finishing editing her 15th book and I am doing first person presentations all over the map. The web site provides samples of the ongoing and expanding ministry.

Douglas Sowards

Douglas Sowards writes:

Anne Marie and I have been active members of the Denver First Church of the Nazarene since 1986. For many years I helped usher at this large church. At almost 81 years of age, getting around is not that easy any more, so my ushering days are over. Our church will be starting a building program to enlarge our facilities. We are excited about that.

After retiring from the Army in 1985, I worked for 9 years as an Army Education Counselor. I have done some supply preaching, and have conducted several funerals at funeral homes and at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
I’m happy to be a friend to my pastor… to pray for him and support him through faithful attendance.

Any chaplains who want to send an e-mail to me, I will welcome it, and respond immediately
